With all that has transpired within the past few months of
living in the Pandemic of Covid-19, we cannot deny that this time has caused us
to take a moment to reflect and acknowledge the injustice that our world is
facing. A spotlight was shining on this
issue of race and economic differences…and the George Floyd incident was the
last straw.
I have taken this time to further educate myself on my
people and my culture and all that they have to offer. I have always sought to support black-owned
businesses in my community when I can, and there was a time when I felt there
weren’t many black fashion brands out there.
But I realize I was wrong, many of them do exist. It’s just that they are not given the same
attention and consequently, we must do our own research to find them. I stumbled upon a local Toronto brand
entitled TYRELL. The brand, launched in
2018, features sensual, feminine, chic garments that absolutely hug your curves
with such ease and comfort. TYRELL has
it best listed on its site when it says “ balancing between reality and fantasy”,
and architecture is key! Shop TYRELL

During my research, I also came across an article from one
of my favourite fashion magazines Elle.
The magazine put out a great article today entitled “65 Black-Owned And
Designed Fashion Brands To Support Forever, From Fenty to Cushnie”. Check it out!
Much appreciation to Elle for stepping up and producing this
article. https://www.elle.com/uk/fashion/g32727342/black-owned-fashion-brands/
